The Great Continent of Antarctica
The continent of Antarctica is truly unique, with its breathtaking beauty it still can be incredibly ruthless to anyone who tries to dominate it. It remains the only continent in the world that has never seen the face of war. However, this continent, with a land mass larger than America and Europe together, has been the scene of more violent deaths than natural ones, due to continuous low temperatures which keep it practically free of any germs.
This continent is quite the oxymoron, the most different of faiths and political stances cam come here and work closely together only inches away from freezing sub 100-degree weather. In Antarctica people are able to eat four hearty meals each day and never gain an ounce because the extreme cold uses more calories than could be cut out using any diet.
It is home to the “big eye,” a singular condition of mass insomnia caused by the perpetual daylight of summer where inhabitants cannot sleep in the full sunshine of 3:00 am. Antarctica loftily brags of the most distinctive club on earth, the “300 Degree Club.” It claims the least expensive and southernmost bar of the world located at the South Pole where all drinks cost a like amount, but where even so the bill for a single night can be a great amount. From April to September, the people there experience long nights.
At the heart of Antarctica, there’s a mobile ice shield that’s 9,000 feet across, which contains a rich deposit of coal, gas and oil that could be very useful. Its laws, or lack thereof, are so strange that a fugitive could not be extradited and any criminal has almost nine million square miles of terrain ranging from open spaces to mountain ranges in which to conceal himself, should he be fortunate enough to survive more than a couple of hours in the most adverse climate known on earth.
Even though this continent has no laws, it has the lowest crime rate in the world. Even if a crime did happen, such as a murder, it was never reported or prosecuted. Leaving a lot of mystery behind what may or could happen here. And if someone DID commit a crime, with no extradition agreements or statutes, there would be no way to charge or prosecute them.
While the flags of 10 different nations are flying over this beautiful continent, there are no claims to the real estate located here. Not a single country or nation has even attempted to try and make a permanent colony here on these primal lands. Ironically, these primal lands have some of the most technologically advanced pieces of equipment.
It may be surprising to know that the people who live here, although usually only for a short period, are known to have the highest IQ per capita on the planet. As a matter of fact there are more people on this continent that have university degrees than simple high school diplomas. Not only does it have more talented scientists than most universities, it continues to be the center of more peaceful R & D studies than most world capitals. This southern land is the only place where firing nuclear bombs is completely restricted.
While it has few criminal laws, Antarctica is home to some of the toughest environmental laws on the planet. A century ago the land and sea were bloody from the slaughter done by seal and whale hunters; today a special license is required before any animal life is killed. Every scientist that comes to Antarctica has it in heart to fight to keep this land pure.
